Poodll recorders vs Moodle recorders

Moodle 3.5 has been out on the streets since May this year. You may have noticed that one of the things it includes are audio and video recorders on the TinyMCE and Atto editors. This is a new core plugin called Record RTC. Poodll’s TinyMCE editor and Atto editor plugins were among the very first editor plugins, and are in action on thousands of sites. But now Moodle users have a choice available to them, so which should they choose? Before we dive into the feature comparison, lets preamble a little. First of all its high time Moodle did have […]

We will be releasing Cloud Poodll officially at that time, and its sure to be exciting. Some of what you will hear and see from us includes. Cloud Recording Now it is possible to record and save your files completely […]

Hello Single Button Recorder

So we have been flexing our HTML5 recorder skin technology a little bit. This is our latest creation, the single button recorder. It is still in beta mode really because we will be adding size options and a few other things, but it’s in Poodll right now if you want to try it out. We see this as being our smallest audio recorder and one that works quite nicely on a phone in portrait orientation. We have also introduced some audio animations. You can check the single button recorder, and the animations out at: https://demo.poodll.com/mod/page/view.php?id=219 (Login as any username from […]

HTML5 Audio Recording on (almost) all major browsers

In the latest release of Poodll (v2017110501) we have brought HTML5 audio recording to all major browsers. (The only exception is Internet Explorer ..). Apple had been holding out on us, but they came through. The chart below shows the state of HTML5 audio and video recording support in Poodll. This makes Poodll: the most advanced general purpose HTML5 recording system on the internet. the system with the widest browser coverage. the system with the deepest integration with Moodle. NB. Right now you need to manually enable support for Safari on desktop devices. We felt it prudent to allow users […]

Poodll and Titus

Recently it seems you can’t go two steps without hearing about Moodle’s latest partner, Titus Learning. As luck would have it they were on a whirlwind tour of Japan last week and even we got to see first hand why they are all the buzz. Actually Titus Learning provide Poodll to some of their clients, so it was not our first time to see them. But it was great to meet again, and also some of the schools they work with in Tokyo. Titus provide fully managed Moodle, to  K-12 (primary and secondary) institutions mainly. They have a number of […]

Updating Templates Got Easy

When we first brought out the players and widget templates, we were a bit naive and did not expect them to become little plugins of their own. But of course any software has feature changes, bugs and improvements. We added a version field some time ago. And in the last release of Poodll (version 207100701) we improved the templates page. It fits more on it now, but more importantly with one click you can update all your templates to the latest version, or you can cherry pick the ones you want to update.

Poodll Shadow

Well its been rumoured and requested for sometime. But with all the HTML5 action it finally was the right time to build the Poodll Shadow. Poodll Shadow is a hybrid audio player/recorder that students can use to practice their pronunciation. The left hand button (green) plays the model (or teacher) audio. The middle button(blue) records the student speaking at the same time as they listen to the model audio. This is the shadowing part. Finally the student can listen to their own speech via the pink button. Its still undergoing changes. We are making it even cooler. But we are […]

Poodll on Apple Safari and Mobile Safari

iOS 11 and High Sierra were released a few weeks ago with the promise of real support for HTML5 recording.  And here at Poodll our tails were wagging. We were initially able to get HTML5 audio recording going in Poodll on both iOS 11 and High Sierra. But we did run into problems. [EDIT HTML5  Audio recording is now available on Safari on High Sierra 2017/11/07] What doesn’t work? After further tests we found that Safari on High Sierra seems to have a bug. We were unable to consistently set anything other than the default audio device as the recording […]

Introducing the 123 Recorder

A lot of work has been done on the audio and video recorder skins for the last few releases of Poodll. In particular the new Burnt Rose skin and the 123 Recorder skin. The latter was designed specifically to make it clear to the recorder that they needed to upload the recorded file, before saving/inserting on the current Moodle page. The audio version looks like this in its ready state. As each of the three phases: record, play and upload, are completed a green tick appears below the completed steps. The video version looks very similar. See here for information […]
