I’m releasing the thrillseeker version. Kind of like a beta. Except it has some really cool stuff, and its pretty well ready to go. It is not on the main download page yet. (20120823 edit: To stop the confusion, it IS now the release version.) You can download it from here.

Whats it got? Well, here is some of the new stuff:
New Mp3 Recorder
The cool MP3 recorder that we used till now was not written by me. Paul Nichols from University of Canterbury let us use his. But to integrate in the same way as the other widgets all do, we really needed our own recorder written in the same language (OpenLaszlo) as the other widgets. I hesitated to do this because it seemed wasteful to re invent the wheel, and better to contribute back to Paul’s recorder, than to go it alone. But managing exceptions became too tough and I don’t have a copy of Adobe Flash CS6 and didn’t want to buy one and then learn it just for that. Anyway the good news is that now you don’t need to use Red5 or tokyo.poodll.com to record audio into the PoodLL Online Assignment or PoodLL Recording Question. Some people have been waiting for this feature for a while.
The whiteboard can now be used to submit drawings to the repository or as a response to a question or as an assignment submission. In the case of the question, you can select the board size and set a background image at the time of creating the question. That means that students can draw over or annotate that picture. Its pretty neat and I am looking forward to trying it out in my own classes. It also has the worst “Save” button you have ever seen, and you better not forget to press it or you’ll lose your drawing.
I added a whole bunch of new players after seeing one of my friends struggle to put together a kid’s site using PoodLL and the flowplayer. So we now have a Mini player, a Word player, and a Once player. The mini player just has a play button and that is all. The word player just shows a single word. If you click it plays the audio. Setting the word is a little hairy, but fast enough. The once player, just plays once. It’s useful for tests, but a page reload will reset it, so its not robust enough for serious testing. Because you choose the recorder straight after recording it makes audio content creation fast. See here for more information on the audio repository and player options.
I gave up on putting the old widget selector widget in the repository. And instead of doing that added a simple list of widget presets you can choose from. It’s really quick to just choose your widget and insert, all from the good ol’ file picker. If you need to customize further you can just use the filter string as we have done until now. You will need to add a new “widget” repository from the plugins->repository->poodll section of the site administration once you have installed the new version. See here for more information on the widget repository.
