A lot of people ask this. Originally I wrote a few mods that were not really related to each other. But the mod that I was most interested in was a pairwork mod, that improved on the pairwork features in the big overpriced language labs that are common here in Japan.
The pairwork mod provided an A and a B page that would be shown to A or B student respectively. This was chiefly for information gap activities in language learning classes. Later I added the ability to link the A and B student via any of chat, whiteboard, audio or video. And I added the ability to make “pairs” of arbitrary size, ie groups. This was Pairwork for Moodle, and turned Moodle into a pseudo language lab(LL). And that all came together as “PoodLL“.
In keeping with the language lab idea, I added in other add ons that I made and that were useful for language classes. That is where the byline, “The Open Source Language Lab” came in. Some of those add ons were simply the widgets, others were full blown mods, like the PoodLL student/teacher journal and the audio/video recording assignment.
Now you may wonder what happened to that pairwork mod. Well I still use it to be honest. But almost everyone who came to PoodLL was interested in the audio/video recording features. So when I was deciding the order in which PoodLL for Moodle 1.9 features should be ported to PoodLL 2, it made sense to bring over the recording features first.
I do want to bring over PoodLL Pairwork to Moodle 2 since it is my favorite mod. It is also a good opportunity for me to fix up a lot of things that I am unhappy with about it. Being an older mod, and without a doubt being the most complex mod, Pairwork needs a little bit of a rethink though before I get stuck in.
Is anybody interested in PoodLL Pairwork?
